Ademola Lookman has lauded Atletico Madrid's fighting spirit in the UEFA Champions League encounter against VfB Stuttgart.

The Spanish giants held their hosts to a 1-1 draw in a matchday three encounter at the MHPArena on Tuesday night.

Jamie Leweling gave Stuttgart the lead with a brilliant finish in the 36th minute.

Lookman, who replaced Jonathan David after the break, set up Julian Alvarez for the equalising goal in the 48th minute.

Atlético were reduced to 10 men with 25 minutes left when Morten Hjulmand was sent off for a reckless challenge on Angelo Stiller.

Diego Simeone's side however battled hard to earn a share of the spoils.

Lookman was happy with his teammates' determination in the keenly contested encounter.

“I think they obviously started strong, they’re a strong team. Playing away from home is never easy. But we wanted to change the tie in the second half, which we did with the goal,” the Nigeria international told the club's official website.
