Two members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) following the controversial party primaries in the state.
The lawmakers, Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, a two-term member representing Keana constituency and Hon Jacob Ajegena Kudu, representing Nasarawa Eggon constituency, both officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unfair treatment during the party primaries.
The exit of the two lawmakers created a scene during the plenary following a mild drama that greeted the announcement of their resignation on the floor of the House.
Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, who announced their resignation during Tuesday’s plenary, said that Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu (Keana) and Hon. Jacob Ajegena Kudu (Nasarawa Eggon East) submitted resignation letters, blaming their exit on alleged unfair treatment during the APC primary elections.
While wishing them well, the Speaker acknowledged that some party members accepted the outcome of the primaries in good faith, whilst others took their exit.
New Telegraph reports that the House passed into second reading a bill seeking to amend the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund when the dust of the mild drama that followed the announcement of the two lawmakers was settled.
The lawmakers also adopted the report seeking to establish the State Adult and Non-Formal Education Agency, during the plenary.
The Speaker also announced Governor Abdullahi Sule’s nominees for NASIEC Commissioner and the Loko Area Administrative Council, contained in a letter to the House. The nominees are expected to be screened next week.
