OFFICIAL: Chelsea Announce Signing Of Welbeck From Brighton

Chelsea have announced the signing of former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton.

The Blues wrote in a statement on their website:”Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Danny Welbeck from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

“The striker, who has been capped 42 times by England, has signed a contract until 2028 and will join up with Xabi Alonso’s squad during our pre-season tour.”

Welbeck is the latest in a number of additions to new manager Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea squad this summer.

Other arrivals include Morgan Rogers, — who made the move from Aston Villa in a record deal for a British player — Marco Palestra and Geovany Quenda.

Welbeck scored 13 Premier League goals in 37 matches for Brighton last season.

According to reports Chelsea are also pursuing a deal for Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Welbeck began his career with Manchester United and established himself as a key figure under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning the Premier League, twice lifting the League Cup and Community Shield, and claiming the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup.

The 35-year-old moved to Arsenal in September 2014 and spent five seasons with the north London side.

He scored 32 goals in 126 outings and won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Gunners before moving onto Watford and then Brighton.
