The Bashar Chiefdom Community Development Association has said the reinstatement of Abdullahi Idris, as the Rekna of Bashar by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang will strengthen peace and promote unity in Wase Local Government Area.

The association described the governor’s decision as a significant step towards resolving a longstanding chieftaincy issue and deepening reconciliation within Bashar Chiefdom and the wider Wase Federal Constituency.

In a statement issued on Friday, BACCODA said the reinstatement reflected Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to justice, grassroots peacebuilding and the preservation of traditional institutions.

The statement was jointly signed by the association’s President, Dr. Zakari Mohammed, and Secretary, Yunusa Garba.

“We, on behalf of the entire people of Bashar Chiefdom, extend our heartfelt commendation to His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, for this noble and unifying gesture,” the association said.

It described the restoration of the traditional ruler as “a triumph for justice, fairness and the collective desire of our people to sustain our cherished traditional institutions.

“This action clearly shows the Governor’s willingness to listen to the yearnings of the people and prioritise communal harmony above political divides.”

BACCODA said it was optimistic that resolving the chieftaincy matter would reinforce ongoing peace-building efforts across Wase and contribute to greater stability in Plateau State.

“The resolution of the Bashar chieftaincy matter will further consolidate ongoing peace-building initiatives across the Wase Federal Constituency and the entire state,” the statement added.

The association also commended the governor’s consultative approach to governance, saying it had continued to strengthen trust and mutual respect among the state’s diverse ethnic and religious communities.

It urged residents of Bashar Chiefdom and Wase Local Government Area to support their traditional institutions, remain law-abiding and work together to sustain the prevailing peace.

BACCODA further reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Plateau State Government, traditional institutions and the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver more development projects and improve the well-being of the people of Wase.

The reinstatement of His Royal Highness, Abdullahi Idris, as the Rekna of Bashar forms part of the Plateau State Government’s efforts to address chieftaincy disputes through dialogue and lawful processes. Governor Caleb Mutfwang has consistently maintained that restoring peace, strengthening traditional institutions and promoting justice are central to his administration’s agenda for rebuilding trust among communities across the state.
