Singer, Ladé, has said she is more interested in creating relatable music than chasing viral trends.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the ‘Adulthood Na Scam’ crooner said, “For me, the pressure definitely exists because we’re in a time where everything moves so fast, and it’s easy to feel like every song has to go viral. But I have learnt that virality is a moment, while a career is built over time.”

Ladé added that she would rather focus on making authentic songs that listeners can connect with over the years than constantly pursue trends.

“I’d rather focus on making honest music that people can keep coming back to than chase trends all the time. Virality can bring people to one’s music, but it’s the structure one builds around one’s career, the consistency, authenticity and the community one nurtures that gives them a reason to stay,” she said.

The singer advised young artistes not to make virality their only measure of success, urging them to continue developing their craft and building sustainable careers.

“My advice to young artistes like me is to appreciate the viral moments if they come, but don’t let them become your only goal. Keep sharpening your craft, stay true to yourself and build a career that is designed to last,” she added.

Speaking on how her perception of adulthood has changed since releasing her hit song, ‘Adulthood Na Scam’, Ladé said she initially viewed adulthood as being mainly about paying bills, but later discovered that it came with endless responsibilities.

“When I wrote ‘Adulthood Anthem’, I thought adulthood was just about paying bills. I didn’t know it was a subscription service that renews every month. Every time you think you’ve figured it out, life sends you an update and says, ‘You have unlocked a new level’,” she said.

The singer noted that adulthood has taught her the importance of growth, resilience and appreciating small victories.

“You are never really done learning. Every stage comes with new responsibilities, new lessons and new versions of yourself. The challenges don’t necessarily get smaller; you just get stronger and wiser in how you handle them,” she said.

Ladé added that while she still believes adulthood can be overwhelming, she has learnt to embrace the journey.

“So yes, I still think adulthood is a scam, but I have also learnt to celebrate the little wins, give myself grace and enjoy the journey,” she said.
