Three suspected cultists have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command during an intelligence-led operation in Imota, with firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons recovered from them.

PUNCH Metro learnt this from a post on the official X account of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday.

According to the command, the operation followed credible information from members of the public on the activities of suspected cultists in Imota.

The police said, “Acting on the credible intelligence, operatives of the command stormed the location and arrested Jelili Adeyemo, 37 years old, alleged to be the armourer of the group, Bisoye Adewale, 42 years old, and John Okeafo, 60 years old.”

The command added that officers recovered “one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses, and other exhibits.”

It further stated, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity, while the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a notorious cultist known as ‘Mayibone,’ who is currently at large.”

The statement noted that the suspects had been arraigned and remanded, adding that “efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police with useful information, saying, “Residents should continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid ongoing crime-fighting efforts.”
