World Cup 2026: Bubista Hails Cape Verde’s Fighting Spirit In Uruguay Draw

Cape Verde head coach Pedro “Bubista” Brito praised his team’s resilience, character, and unwavering identity after the Blue Sharks battled to a thrilling 2-2 draw against two-time world champions Uruguay.

The Blue Sharks, who are making their debut on football’s biggest stage have emerged as one of the tournament’s surprise packages, earning widespread admiration with impressive displays against both Spain and Uruguay.

Their performances have left qualification for the Round of 32 firmly within reach ahead of their decisive final Group D clash against Saudi Arabia.

Bubista On Tough Draw With Uruguay

Reflecting on the pulsating encounter, Bubista stressed that the significance of the achievement extended far beyond the result itself.

“From the beginning, we came here to compete at the highest level. What makes us happy is not only the results, but being able to show our identity as a team, our spirit, our unity and ability to fight back,” Bubista was quoted by CAFonline.

Qualification Now In Sight

Cape Verde twice stunned Uruguay in Miami and, despite surrendering the lead before half-time, fought back to secure another memorable point.

Bubista insisted that qualification had always been part of Cape Verde’s ambitions.

“We are here to compete and to chase a dream, which is qualification for the second round. That has always been our mentality,” Bubista added.

” We respect all our opponents and we know their qualities, but we are here with the clear objective of fighting for qualification.”
