Obi Calls For Tinubu’s Resignation Over ‘Monumental Failure In Governance’

Date:

Nigeria Democractic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over what he described as “monumental failure in governance.”

In a statement on Monday, Obi said he was inspired by the decision of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to announce his resignation amid public dissatisfaction over economic challenges and unfulfilled campaign promises.

He recalled that before 2015, Tinubu had repeatedly called for the resignation of then-President Goodluck Jonathan over insecurity and economic hardship, including during the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls.

Obi noted that Tinubu had also made several campaign promises ahead of the 2023 presidential election, including improving electricity supply, fighting corruption, and enhancing the welfare of Nigerians.

According to him, the country’s current realities show that those conditions have worsened, with insecurity, economic hardship, and poor electricity supply continuing to affect millions of Nigerians.

He listed several sectors, including security, infrastructure, transportation, and anti-corruption efforts, have experienced setbacks under the current administration.

“I therefore join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance,” Obi said.

He added that such a move would help promote a culture of accountability and responsibility in public office and send a message that leadership failure should have consequences.

Obi said building a society where leaders are held accountable is necessary to secure a better future for coming generations.
