…Vows To Mobilise Lagos For 2027 Victory
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared his readiness to join the campaign for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the election of the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as governor in the 2027 general elections.
Sanwo-Olu made the declaration on Tuesday at an interfaith prayer session held at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos, organised ahead of the campaigns for the 2027 elections.
The prayer session was held to seek divine guidance and support for the re-election bid of President Tinubu and the governorship ambition of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Lagos State.
Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu said the gathering was aimed at committing the campaign and political activities ahead to God, stressing that the party would combine prayers with grassroots mobilisation and hard work.
“We know that there is nothing we can do without prayers. The objective of this gathering was for us to commit our campaign and all of the exercises into the hands of Almighty God,” he said.
The governor said the APC would not take the support of Lagosians, stakeholders or the electorate for granted, adding that the party had sought divine direction before embarking on its campaign activities.
“We are not taking anything for granted. We are not taking anybody for granted. We are not taking any stakeholder for granted. What we have done is to ask God Almighty for direction,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He expressed confidence that the prayers offered at the event would pave the way for victory for the party’s candidates, declaring that Lagos and Nigeria remained states and a country of people of faith.
Sanwo-Olu said he would personally make himself available to participate in the presidential campaign for Tinubu, alongside other party leaders.
“I would make myself available to go on the presidential campaign for Mr President and all of us that are in that position would be on the journey to ensure that the presidential campaign is not left unattended to,” he said.
According to him, the mobilisation would extend beyond Lagos, with the party reaching communities across the state and the South-West.
He also expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure re-election, while APC candidates contesting for the Senate, House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly would emerge victorious.
On the Lagos governorship election, Sanwo-Olu said he was confident that Hamzat would succeed him as governor, alongside his running mate, Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James.
He urged party members and supporters to combine faith with action, stressing that victory would require sustained mobilisation and engagement with voters across the state.
“We have prayed, and we have faith; we then need to go out and work. God will crown our work and effort. We will go round, and we will reach every nook and cranny of the state,” he said.
In his remarks, Hamzat urged party supporters to remain confident and prayerful as the campaign gets underway.
He prayed for the safety of members of the campaign team and supporters, saying none of them would die or become victims of accidents or disasters during the campaign.
“As we go into the campaign, none of us will die, and we will not be victims of any disaster, and we will not be victims of any accident,” Hamzat said.
He expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the elections, saying the party had committed its campaign and aspirations to God.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the PBAT/KOH 2027 Campaign Organisation, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said the prayer session was organised to place the political contest before God while acknowledging the importance of strategy, organisation and commitment.
“Strategy matters, organisation matters, outlook matters, commitment matters, but prayer also has a place in this gathering,” Obanikoro said.
He urged Lagosians and APC members to pray for Tinubu and Hamzat and called for peace, harmony, love and unity within the party throughout the campaign.
Obanikoro described Tinubu and Hamzat as the best candidates for the national and state elections, respectively, and urged party members to work together towards victory.
He said Tinubu had demonstrated the capacity to govern and deliver on his promises, urging supporters to remain united behind the President and the APC governorship candidate in Lagos.
